Financial Talks
Sir, —The repeat that President Johnson is ready to back a major international conference to consider reforming the world’s monetary system may bring hope to the many who believe that the system is at fault. There is no hope in world conferences. They end without action, and it is only action which will count. All the money in the world begins with debt, unrepayable debt, and any one country can change the system for itself. The smaller the country the easier to make the change. Even Norfolk Island could do it if its complete sovereignty established under Queen Victoria were restored to it after being taken away by certain illegal actions in 1896. New Zealand is in a strong position to take effective action if and when we replace our legislators with men who are not servile to the money power.—Yours, etc., W. B BRAY. Leeston. July 13, 1965.
