King's Bridge Repair

Three years ago last Saturday, a transport driver drove over Melbourne's King’s Bridge causing a 35yd section of it to sag. Since then the bridge has been under repair but should be fully usable again within the next two months. Originally the bridge cost I'4 milbon to build. The cost of the repair work has not finally been settled but the latest figure is £678,500. Four new steel girders have been replaced, and a complicated system of steel cables under tension built in to give the structure strength. Melbourne, July 13.
