More Transistors Found In Tjitarum

AUCKLAND, July 2,

Customs officers confiscated eight transistor radios after a search of the Dutch freighter Tjitarum in Auckland today.

The chief boarding inspector, Mr N. M. Clark, said three of his men noticed “activity” among the crew. They searched the crew’s quarters and found the radios.

Last month 40 pounds of raw opium, valued at £l2OO. 57 transistor radios, and’ 46 wrist watches worth £2OOO were seized from the freighter in Wellington. The ship

was again searched at Lyttelton but nothing was found. The Tjitarum was first searched by customs officers when she arrived in Auckland from Singapore. Transistor radios, four wrist watches, seven watch straps and 1000 cigarettes were seized. A police search then for the opium which was later found on board was unsuccessful.
