YOUTH TO MEET
Ecumenical Conference
The spotlight this year was on youth, said Archdeacon W M. Davies when he opened the annual tea meeting of the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Churches last evening. Already more than 700 applications had been received for the fourth ecumenical youth conference, said the assistant secretary of the council (the Rev. R. M. O’Grady) The conference will be held in Hamilton from December 28. 1965. to January 4, 1966 Mr O’Grady said a number of young people in New Zealand who had been to Asia would attend the conference as well as several Asian delegates. Already three registrations had been received from Formosa. A larger representation than ever before of Maoris was expected. A very lively programme had been prepared this year, he said. This would include a modern musical entitled “For Heaven’s Sake.” Services in worship would include “experiments” with music and dance. A group of Dunedin dancers was preparing an interpretative dance of the Gospel. An evening of overseas culture had also been arranged. Mr D. Holland who led the New Zealand delegation to the Asian Christian youth conference last year addressed the meeting.
