PRICES OF FISH
Dispute Ends At Auckland (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 20. The Auckland commercial fishermen’s dispute ended yesterday when a meeting of more than 100 fishermen, with the support of Tauranga men, accepted an offer from the Wholesale Fish Merchants’ Association for catches.
Mr W Jennings, president of the Fishermen’s Association, said after the meeting that the settlement would enable the fishermen to return to work immediately. He hoped that increased prices the merchants would now pay for snapper and tarakahi would not result in an increase in retail prices. Under the agreement, the fishermen will now get 6d a lb for the first 60001 b of snapper and then 5d a lb. The old rate was 6d for the first 3001 b, s}d for the next 30001 b and then 4d. For tarakahi, the rate will be 6d for the first 60001 b and then sd. The old rate ranged from s|d for the first 30001 b, 4jd for the next 30001 b, and then 4d.
