KLAN IN WALES
Indian Grocer The Target (N.Z P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) CARDIFF. June 20. An Indian grocer found a fiery Ku Klux Klan-type cross outside his shop in Cardiff the other night. The outrage was the first of its kind in Wales, but there were two similar incidents in London and several in central England last week. Cardiff has long had a large coloured population but has been remarkably free from racial incidents.
The grocer, Mr Jaswant Singh, telephoned the police, who found the front door badly scorched.

An estimated £27m is being spent on accommodation in New Zealand, says the annua’ report of the Travel and Holi days Association, presented yesterday to the twelfth an nual convention in Auckland “Tourism in New Zealand is gathering momentum,” says the president (Mr J. L. Chapman). “It is pleasing to report the spectacular growth of the accommodation section of the industry.”
There were 122,288 visitors to New Zealand last year, compared with 109.418 in 1963. “These visitors are estimated to have spent £10,400.000 in overseas exchange,, as against £9m in the previous year.” The report says that confidence in the future of tourism is shown by the development in all facets of the tourist industry, including airports, transport, roads and accommodation.
Even greater effort will be needed to cope with the increased tourist traffic brought by New Zealand’s entry into the jet age. The association’s membership has grown from 1462 to 2133 in the last year. Auckland has the highest membership of 184, followed by Wellington with 181.
