Price Of Beer

Sir, —The announcement of the proposed increase in the orice of beer came as a shock to most of the public. It was stated that the cost of production had risen, and that wages had risen also in the last few years. However, the wage rise has not been universal. affectin? only certain occupations. Most of us stayed oh our normal wage. One of the big reasons for the price going tip would not be production costs, but profit dividends. Are not the brewers making a large enough profit already? If the increase is necessary, then why have Westland Breweries not had an increase? Are the other breweries afraid that Westland will not support them, as they certainly did not issue a ioint statement? The brewers have us in a fix and they realise it. However, in the interests of the general public, let them give careful consideration to the subject before trying to line their pockets at our expense.—Yours, etc., MASH AND MAC. June 19. 1965.
