More Than 1000 Birds Judged At Poultry Show

More than 1000 birds, some from Invercargill and Whangarei, are being shown at the Christchurch Poultry, Pigeon, and Cage Bird Club’s ninety-eighth annual show. : The entries were judged : on Thursday in the Christchurch Fanciers’ Hall, Selwyn street, and the show will remain open to the public today. Mr W. L. Gobbe, the club’s president, said that the show had been very successful. The standard of the exhibits was good, birds in all classes being of a high quality. Though numbers were down slightly on previous years, quality had been more than maintained this year. Mr J. H. Taylor, judge of the fancy bantams section, said that in his section the standard of all classes was good, with one or two birds in particular sub-sections outstanding. Mrs P. B. Gilligan, who judged some of the pigeon sections, said there was not really a bad bird in her classes. Other judges were: Game poultry, Mr S. Penticost, Christchurch; light breeds, Mr B. E. Graham, Amberley; heavy breeds, Mr C. Mannings, Christchurch; game bantams, Mr E W. Tippins, Christchurch; fancy bantams, Mr J. H. Taylor, Christchurch; fancy pigeons, Messrs W. S. Whiteside, Christchurch, and A Ryan. New Plymouth, and Mrs P. G. Gallagher, Christchurch; homer pigeons, Mr B. Partridge, Christchurch; ducks, Mr B. E. Graham.
