Summer Star ; and Belle El Nil came through their preparations for the BirthI day Handicap in attractive manner while For Sure and Captain Morgan worked i solidly. Of the lesser lights. Fine Chase. Royal Burgh. Melhar and Balken Boy showed to advantage with second day runners in Kelvin Lad. Golden Century. Flying York and Bastille hand ling the conditions well. Good Sprint I Kumai <B. J. Anderton) and i Myfilou (A. AEan) completed a [round of solid pace work by [sprinting from the three furI longs in 40 2-ssec—a good performance under the conditions on the extreme outside of the course proper. Balken Boy fW. Hastie) and Belle El Nil (F. Austin) did a similar trial in 40sec. Both horses were placed at their last starts and are form runners for the meeting. Raveiston (L. Tree) and his stablemate, Melhar (M. Parr), galloped well in 41sec. Summer Star (E. J. Didham) and Flying Work (C B. Clydesdale) dashed over half a mile in 54sec. the ’ast three furlongs in 41sec. These times were equalled by Bastille fE. J. Didham) and Golden Century (C. B. Clydesdale). Beginner’s Wonder <P. J. Silver) and Soncerai (D. Matthews) left the impression that they could have improved on 55 2-ssec. Runner-up in her last two races, Soncerai is the i early favourite for the Trial [Stakes No. 2. An Easy Run Great Howe (P J. Silver) and Soaring High (4). Matthews) were given an easy run in 57sec after taking 14sec for the opening furlong. Etassem (E. .1. Didham) and Segundo (J. R. Dowling) were given a similar task to equal these times. Dark Jester (G. Mee) and Ataarangi (W. C. Gye) ran the first furlong in 13 2-ssec and completed the distance in 57sec. Fine Chase (B. P. Kennedy) and Royal Burgh (G. Mee) covered six furlongs in Imin 26sec, the first three furlongs in 43sec. Kelven Lad (A. J. Tweedie) finished clear of Lezvea (M. Turnbull) in Imin 26 2-ssec, the first three furlongs in 41sec. Captain Morgan (A. K. Robinson) and For Sure (R. J. Skelton) ran a solid seven furlongs in Imin 39sec, the first halfmile in 56sec.
