SONIC-BOOM DAMAGE
Responsibility Fixed (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 3. Damage from sonic booms by aircraft participating in displays for the Auckland international airport opening would be the responsibility of the display committee, said the Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr McAlpine) in Parliament today. It was not expected any property would be damaged, but should compensation be necessary, it would be met by insurance. Mr McAlpine said he had been advised by the Minister of Defence (Mr Eyre) that the display committee would be advised it was ultimately responsible and should take out insurance. Mr C. J. Moyle (Opp., Manakau) had asked Mr McAlpine if he would accept “full responsibility” for any damage that may result from sonic booms from any aircraft participating in the displays. Mr Moyle said the only aircraft capable of supersonic speeds would be military aircraft.
