Barbarians Hit Back

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 30. Auckland beat Barbarians, 16-14, in the mud on Eden Park today, and led 16-3 at half-time. While scoring its 16 points from two goals and two tries in the first 23 minutes, Auckland looked like world-beaters. But before half-time, V. M. Yates went in for a try for Barbarians and in the first minute after half-time a magnificent thrust from the Barbarians’ 25 produced an 80-yard run and a great try in the corner for J. A. S. Mackenzie. Thereafter, much of the game belonged to the Barbarians. For Auckland, D. W. McKay, K. O'Sharjnessey, M. J. Dick and P. Lindsay scored tries and W. A. Davies converted two. For Barbarians, Yates. Mackenzie and J. Maniapoto scored tries, T. Morris kicked a dropped goal and Yates a conversion.
