Hammer And Long Jump (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) MODESTO (California), May 30. R. Boston set a world record long jump of 27 feet 5 inches and the former Olympic champion, H. Connolly, established a world mark in the hammer throw on Saturday at the California relays. United Press International reported. Connolly threw the weight 233 feet 2in, to beat the old mark of 231 ft lOin he set three years ago. Boston set his mark on his fifth and final jump to beat his own world record set a year ago, by three-quarters of an j inch. Four runners broke four minutes in the mile, won by J. Ryun, in 3min 58.1 sec. J. Garrison returned the same time and J. Grelle was third in 3min 58.2 sec. It was the fastest time recorded by Ryun, an 18-year-old Wichita student. R. Clarke, of Australia, won the two miles in Bmin 32sec, the fastest time this year for the distance in the United States. Clarke’s time also beat the old meeting record of Bmin 37.1 sec, set by W. D. Baillie, of New Zealand, in 1964.
