“International Friendship”

'lnternational Friendship" was the theme of an entertainment programme presented at the fifteenth-birthday celebrations of the Hornby Country Women’s Institute. The hall was arranged to look like a restaurant at an international airport, with several members wearing the national dress of the countries they represented sitting at the tables. Guests included the president of the Canterbury East Federation (Mrs A. M. Riches), Mrs N. Candy, who formed the Hornby C.W.I. in 1950, former federation officers, representatives of sister organisations in the district and women senior citizens. The institute choir sang national choruses and songs and a short play was presented by the drama group. Guest artists were Mrs N. Harris (recitation), and Miss Kathleen Fahey (dances). Mrs J. Fahey was the pianist. Mrs A. M. Riches presented prizes for annual competitions to the following:—lnstitute Cup for sewing, Mr A. Shaw; Hill Cup for cooking, Mrs A. Shaw; Thompson Cup for horticulture, Mrs W. R. Gordon.
