Notable Omissions In Kiwi Trial
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 30. R. D. Hammond, the 1961 Kiwi captain, and a New Zealand test player during 1961-64, has been omitted from the list of 30 players who will play in the final New Zealand Rugby League trial to choose the Kiwi team to play the first test against Australia on June 19.
The trial will be held at Carlaw Park next Saturday. Hammond, who missed selection in the Auckland match against the touring New South Wales Country side because of a leg injury, was fit to play last Saturday. He is the only one of many top players the national selectors (Messrs M. H, W. Robertson and W. Telford) have omitted. Others include R. F. Christian, the Auckland wing i who impressed in the Auck-land-Canterbury game on Saturday, and I. Drayton, who was an outstanding Canterbury forward in the same match and who made his test debut last year. The two Wellington players, G. Smith, second row, and the speedy wing, J. la Frantz, the Auckland prop, B. S. Lee, and the Auckland hooker G. Mattson, are other notable omissions. The teams are:—

Sent Off The first Rugby League player ordered off this season was the Linwood prop, J. Fonotea, who was sent off in the senior match with Hornby on Saturday. There had been some heated exchanges between players and after a loose melee the referee, Mr T. Houston, deal with Fonotea.
