SMITHFIELD MARKET

N.Z. Lamb Sold Steadily

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, May 28.

New Zealand lamb sold steadily, but selling pressure to reduce stocks caused some weakening in prices. New Zealand hoggets and wethers continue in very short supply at nominal prices. Sharply increased pitchings of New Zealand ewes sold slowly at weak prices. Wether mutton was quoted at 17d per lb and ewe mutton at 13jd to 14d per lb. New Zealand chilled beef cleared easily with hinds 34d to 34Jd per lb and fores 20d to 21d per lb.
