A fast-moving typhoon
today skirted Tokyo Bay and roared off into the North Pacific leaving casualties of nine dead,
six missing and 12 others injured. Heavy rains caused by the season’s sixth typhoon and low atmospheric pressure poured over Western and Central Japan for nearly 30 hours until midday today. The typhoon was blamed for landslides which occurred at 229 places. About 30,000 houses were flooded and 262 others were washed away. Japan’s high-speed “bullet trains” on the new national railways trunk line between Tokyo and Osaka suspended thei ■ services.
