CAR HITS BANK
Two Die; Five Hurt (N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, May 27. Two persons died and five others were injured last night when a car struck a bank of the Rangitikei river bridge at Bulls. Those killed were: Richard Newell George Histed, aged 22, a flying officer, of Ohakea air force station. His parents live at 141 Orakei road, Remuera, Auckland. Miss Kathleen Beryl Russell, aged 19, of 5 Bulteel street, New Plymouth.
Seriously ill in the Palmerston North Hospital is another Flying Officer, Ross Lithgow Ewing, aged 21, of Ohakea.
The other persons injured are in Palmerston North Hospital in a satisfactory condition. They are Brian Allan Lockie, aged 20, a flying officer, of Ohakea, whose home address is 16 Baildon road, Grey Lynn, Auckland; a pilot officer, Richard John Metcalfe, aged 20, of 49 Florence avenue, Palmerston North; Miss Sandra Elizabeth Manning, aged 21, of 16 Millward street, Wanganui; and Miss Isabel Florence Leinweber, of the Murupara Post Office staff.
