Want N.Z. Potatoes
(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) SYDNEY, May 26. A call to have New Zealand potatoes available on the open market was made today by the secretary of the Progressive Housewives’ Association of New South Wales, Mrs E. Wayiing. She said cheap potatoes from New Zealand should be released to the market to force local growers to reduce prices. The association recently iirged housewives to boycott the purchase of potatoes until prices were reduced. “We think that 6d a pound is enough to pay for potatoes. At Is they are a luxury that can be done without,” she said.
The retail price of potatoes in the Sydney area has been as high as 2s a pound in recent weeks.
New Zealand potatoes are imported only for proceasing and elaborate bonding precautions are being taken to keep them from the market
