REFEREES’ DECISION

Select Own Officials

Mr T. C. Gottermeyer reported to the Canterbury Football A> sociation’s management coin mittee last evening that the ref crees’ association appointment board would, in future, make its own decisions on the official for English Park matches. Th > is contrary to a directive from the management committee at the beginning of the season which asked that the top mx referees only be appointed to English Park. Mr Gottermeyer said referees aiming for various qualifka tions would be given the 1 p.m game. This was only fair to them, he said, to give them the experience of using lincxmen and receiving crowd feeling. Mr Gottermeyer also report ed that some of the fourth and fifth grade games would not be refereed in favour of first division reserve games. “Some are just not worthwhile,’’ he said. “We will do ail the clubs in Christchurch a favour next year and not grant mid-season transfers,” said Mr R. van do Monde. “They won’t lose anything.” The committee approved the transfers of G. A. Moller, from New Brighton to Wigram, and W. Brown, Nomads, to New Brighton. It also received clear ances for R. Pearson (Rangers) and A and D. McHugh (Tech nical Old Boys).

The Christchurch City cluh advised that R. Bruce, the re presentative right-wing. had played 10 games and thus qualified for his Canterbury blazer Nine weeks suspension was imposed on J. van de Heino for “violent conduct” in a match last Saturday. This action was taken bv the judicial committee after considering a report from the referee, Mr A. Gallington. Mr Gallington sent van dor Heide, of Shamrock, from the field during the match against H. 5.0.8.
