Quota Wanted For Sperms
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright)
CANBERRA, May 25.
Australia would press for a quota on the killing of sperm whales to protect the species, the Minister for Primary Industry (Mr C. F. Adermann) said yesterday. Speaking in the Tfouse of Representatives, Mr Adermann said Australia would put its view to the annual meeting of the International Whaling Commission on June 28. A recent meeting of the commission had unanimously agreed to ban the killing of humpback and blue whales in Antarctic waters.
However, no quota had been set for sperm whales and Australia was worried about the species’ survival.
