REGULATION FOR NURSES
Otago Board’s Misgivings (,VZ. Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 25. The Auckland Hospital Board has rejected a move by the Otago Hospital Board to reopen the discussion on the nurses’ new employment regulations. The Otago board sought support to call a special meeting of the Hospital Boards’ Association. In a letter, the Otago board said too little opportunity was given boards to study the ultimate result of the regulations before they were introduced. The Otago board believed the regulations imposed a financial burden on boards and on the taxpayers, which was unwarranted and which had thrown nursing salaries out of line with all other salaries in New Zealand. Draft Copies In a report to the Auckland board, Mr L. Corkery, the staff officer, said draft copies of the new regulations were issued to boards three months before the new regulations came into force.
He considered that opinion would be divided on whether the new salaries were unwarranted.
Mr Corkery said the new regulations introduced measures which were a radical departure from past tradition but which deserved a fair trial.
