South Westland
Sir,—Mr Mark Wallace again urges the need for progress on the West Coast. He states the necessity for a road beyond Jacksons for tourists and farming. This would be wonderful for the tourists, but as for farming, well, the National Parks are already there. The Westland Progress League is in favour of a chair-lift or aerial railway on Franz Josef glacier. I imagine that this would be impossible, as there is a fault line through this country, it would be better if Mr Walwith the Westland Progress League in seeing that land is made available at Fox glacier for housing and motel sites. I heard of one man who was prepared to spend a consid-
erable amount of money in the area but could not obtain land for this purpose.— Yours, etc., PROGRESS. May 7, 1965.
