MEASURING EARTH
Objectives Of Satellite (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) WALLOPS ISLAND, (Virginia), April 29. A satellite was blasted from here today to map irregularities in the earth’s gravitational field. The space vehicle, called Beacon Explorer-C, is the first satellite launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration with geodosy as its primary mission. Geodesy is the measurement of the earth’s size, shape, mass and variations in gravity.
