One-Guinea Winner
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY. A two-year-old gelding which was sold for one guinea after suffering a hoof injurylast year, “bolted” home to win the Two-Year-Old Handicap at Rosehill on Saturday. After being bought for a guinea, his new owner sold a half share, for one guinea, to the Sydney trainer. T. J. Smith. The gelding. Piping Prince, was one of five Smith-trained runners and started at 100/1. It was his first race start. Another winner at Rosehill bought for only a moderate sum, was the New Zealandbred four-year-old gelding. Lucky Trick, which up until now has been a most unlucky runner. Bought for 600 guineas, Lucky Trick had nine minor placings to his credit, but had not managed to score a win until Saturday. His win was in the mile and a half Auburn Stakes.
The good galloper Count One will do his future racing in Sydney from H. H. Riley's stable. Count One, which strained a suspensory ligament at Riccarton in November, was brought back from a rest today by T. C. Alcock, of Matamata, the horse’s trainer throughout his New Zealand career.—(P.S.S.)
