MILK-PLANT WORKERS
Pay Increases From Today (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 30. Milk-plant workers and drivers will receive an increase in wages from tomorrow, the secretary of the Dairy Workers’ Union (Mr S. Wheatley) said in Hamilton today that as a result of discussions in Wellington this week between the union and the employers in the townmilk industry, wages for adult male and female workers would be increased by 9s 9d to Us 8d a week. This raised the basic rate to £l5 a week for general workers and £l7 2s lid for foremen. The rate for milk tanker drivers operating a vehicle over 15 tons would be £l7 Is. Mr Wheatley said drivers would be entitled, if necessary, to up to two pairs of suitable leather boots each year.
