INTEGRATION BETTER
Conservation, Use Of Land Recommendations regarding the integration of administration for the conservation and use of soil and water in New Zealand will be made to the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) by Mr H. E. L. Pickering, member of Parliament for Rangiora. In Christchurch yesterday. Mr Pickering, who has just returned from overseas as the Government’s representative to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association conference in Britain, said he had made a side study of land utilisation while abroad. “We are going to see a great deal of forestry in Canterbury, especially along the foothills and some quite important decisions will have to be made regarding the allocation of land between farming and forestry,” he said.
After studying projects in the United States, Mr Pickering formed the opinion that the conservation of soil and water, and the control of noxious animals and weeds were all interwoven and therefore should he considered together.
