Cement Levy In North
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 30. A temporary levy of 5s a ton on cement will be imposed on cement sold in Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty districts from Monday to cover the extra cost of transporting surplus South Island cement to these areas to avoid a cement shortage. A statement today on behalf of four cement manufacturers, says the Government has agreed that the levy was the best way to meet the situation. The companies are the Golden Bay Cement Company, New Zealand Cement Holdings (Guardian Cement), Wilsons (N.Z.) Portland Cement, and the Waitomo Portland Cement Company.
