Wants Cheap Fares Extended
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 30. South Pacific Airlines of New Zealand will ask the Air Services Licensing Authority next month to approve the extension of the company’s cheap fares plan.
S.P.A.N.Z. announced today
that it will seek permission to make its present economy fares between Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch form part of the same-day through journey fare for passengers booked beyond those terminals. M will also seek to introduce “Otago winter concessions” in the form of a £4 10s return fare for twoway journeys between Oamaru, Alexandra, Gore, and Invercargill. This will represent a con-
cession of nearly 36 per cent, or £2 10s, on the present £7 Oamaru-Gore return, and 25 per cent, or £1 10s, on the present £6 Oamaru-Alexandra fare.
On the present OamaruInvercargill return fare of £7 18s, the concession will be £3 Bs, or more than 43 per cent. S.P.A.N.Z. will also ask for the introduction of a £7 10s return fare between Timaru, Alexandra and Gore. This would amount to a 10s reduction of the Timaru-Alexandra fare and a £1 10s reduction on the Timaru-Gore fare. No refunds would be made on tickets once the first part of a journey had been completed and the concession would be valid from May 1 to December .17. At present S.P.A.N.Z. is allowed to carry 10 passengers
at concession rates on each flight between Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. An N.A.C. officer said tonight that the corporation would not object tb the further concessions now proposed, provided they were given to not more than 10 passengers on each flight. S.P.A.N.Z. first introduced concession fares last October.
