Decrease Of £18.2m (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 30. The 1,042,960 bales (350,848.3771 b of greasy wool sold at auction from July 1, 1964, to March 31. 1965, realised £18,223,498 less than the 1,030,231 bales (343,742,3101 b auctioned during the corresponding period last season, reports the New Zealand Wool Commission. The total realised to March 31 this year was £62,832,716 compared with £81,056,214. The average of 42.98 d per lb was 13.61 d down on last year’s 56.59 d or £lB a bale. During the period 21,181 bales (5,594,1101 b of scoured wool valued at £1,374,708 had been sold at auction compared with last season’s 16,399 bales (4,241,9981 b valued at £1,302,337. The average price of scoured wool was 58.98 d per lb compared with 73.68 d in the previous season.
Bright Opening To London Sale (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, April 29. The London April wool sales opened brightly today under exceptionally keen and spirited competition, values showing a marked all round improvement on the closing rates of the March sales. Australian greasy Merinos appreciated 5 to 7J per cent. Prices for New Zealand greasy crossbred fleece and skirtings were also 5. to 7$ per cent higher while lambs were mostly up to 5 per cent dearer Among New Zealand scoured crossbreds, short pieces and locks showed the biggest rise at 7i per cent, most other descriptions being 2} to 5 per cent dearer. Slipes were generally 7f to 10 per cent dearer, but short halfbred lambs, rather neglected in the March sales, can be quoted fully 10 per cent higher.
