OFFICIAL REPORT

The official report on yesterday’s Christchurch wool sale issued by the Christchurch Woolbrokers’ Association, in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission, says:—• “The eighth the final wool sale of the 1964-65 season was held in the Wool Exchange when catalogues totalling 26,360 bales were submitted by four selling brokers. The offering was a varied one, coming from Canterbury, Marlborough, the West Coast and Chatham Islands.

“In addition to a fair quantity of halfbred and Romnew ewe fleece there was a large selection of lambs’ wool, and a fair offering of secondshear, with a sprinkling of hogget wool and a few Merino clips. While there were practically no super lines, quite a large percentage could be described as good or average to good, but much of the fleece wool was carrying a certain amount of dust, and some discoloration and tenderness. The lambs’ wool, on the whole, opened up well and there were a number of quite attractive lots, while second-shear wool was well up to its usual standard. Coast wools were inclined to be somewhat cotted and discoloured, though mostly fairly light in condition. “Considering the adverse weather conditions the offering, as a whole, was rather better than had been anticipated. “The sale opened before a full bench of buyers and competition was keen, especially for three-quarterbred and crossbred wools. Fine qualities met with a rather more restricted sale, and prices for these were hardly up to the last fine wool sale in Dunedin, though about on a par with the Christchurch March sale. “All classes of three-quarter and crossbred fleece can be quoted as a shade easier than the recent improved rates in Auckland, while piece wools and lambs’ wool were generally very firm.

“There was a good clearance at auction.’’
