Gosset Street Trees
Sir, —As one who knows Gosset street well, I have followed with concern the controversy over the removal of the trees. Surely without these the street would lose its identity and become but yet another uninteresting roadway. It does seem, however,
that in the first instance the choice of lime trees may have been unfortunate as I understand these cannot be readily pruned back to keep them a reasonable size. If, then, of necessity they must be removed, I most sincerely hope that new trees would be planted promptly. Rugby Park users, including many visiting athletes, must be impressed by the tree-lined approach to the gates. If autumn does bring extra work with falling leaves what a little to tolerate compared with the beauty for the remainder of the year. Let us not hasten to destroy what has taken about 30 years to achieve.—Yours, etc., MORE TREES. April 30, 1965.
