SOCCER
On Tuesday, April 20, in his report to the C.F.A., the Canterbury sole selector (Mr V. R. Smith) concluded his report by saying that it was an insult to the Canterbury players to play before the meagre attendance of 1218, and he blames the Christchurch soccer fraternity for this lapse. L along with 1217, braved the brilliant sunshine to watch what promised to be an exciting tussle between Canterbury and New Caledonia. As the game progressed, I became terribly disillusioned as to the so called improvement in Canterbury soccer. New Caledonia was an attractive team to watch with its pattern football of 4-2-4. Canterbury with its negative style of kick and hope for the best, has surely not improved by any stretch of imagination of the last 20 years. lam quite sure that the attendances at English Park would improve almost over night if the soccer fraternity of Christchurch was given something to look at. Sir. in conclusion, the blame if any, should be shouldered by the powers that be, certainly not the Christchurch soccer fraternity.—A HOPEFUL FRATERNITY MEMBER.
