TEACHERS’ COLLEGE

Proximity To University It was very important when considering new sites for the Christchurch Teachers’ College, to take into account the need for division A students to have close association with Canterbury University, said Mrs C. C. Holland at a meeting of the Canterbury Education Board yesterday. She drew attention to the fact that many division A students were now taking university subjects as well as their teachers’ college courses.

Mr G. Guy, the principal of the college, said in his report to the board that 220 first and second-year division A students were taking one or two units at the university this year. Under the new teachers’ university studentships scheme, 27 division A students were taking full-time university study.

Mrs Holland also told the board that hails of residence must be included in the early planning of a new teachers’ college. “It is most necessary that we have accommodation for students.”
