BRIQUETTE PLANT

Production On Increase (From Our Own Reporter) WESTPORT. April 27. The Mines Department’s briquette factory at Ngakawau is now producing about 120 tons a day, 20 tons below its normal capacity. In the last two months the factory had supplied 2300 tons to South Island consumers, said the district superintendent (Mr F. Lockington). Production was gradually increasing after modification to the plant. A quantity of briquettes which did not measure up to the high standard set for merchandising had been held back for reprocessing, he said, he said. AH orders had now been met and reserves had accumulated at some depots. Mr Lockington said he was very pleased with reports of the high quality of the briquettes and he expected the fuel to become highly popular.
