QUESTIONING OF RIDER
(From Our Own Reporter) NEW PLYMOUTH. R. Finlay, the rider of Rewarded in the Pukehou Highweight at Bulls on Saturday, was fined £3 for failing to weigh in after having finished fifth. Finlay was also questioned regarding his mount losing five to six lengths after the gates opened. He said Rewarded hit the side of the stalls and this was the cause of his losing ground He said he had been instructed to ride the horse handy if possible After the Trial Plate No. 1 the judicial committee dismissed charges laid against J. D. Waite (rider) and S. McGreal (part-owner and trainer) of On Display, alleging that the horse was not run on its merits.
The committee said the inexperience of the ridbr, and the horse, which was only having its second start, contributed largely to its poor performance. ' The judicial committee also held an inquiry into Lady Janus (L. N. McCutcheon) taking no part in the Greatford Hack Handicap. Lady Janus became very unruly in the stalls, which had to be opened to release her. She was then placed on the outside of the stalls and when the starter, Mr Morris, started the race she whipped round and took no part. No refund of investments could be made.
