SCOUTING CAMPAIGN
Leaders Give Support (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 22. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) and the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nordmeyer) this morning gave their support to a campaign to interest all former scouts and guides in the status of the movement today. The title of the campaign, taken from a statement made by Lord Baden-Powell, is, “Once a scout .... always a scout,” implying that although active participation in the movement might cease, adherence to the principles of scouting would continue. The British Prime Minister (Mr Wilson), in a founder’s day message to the Boy Scout and Girl Guide Associations of New Zealand, said the benefits of training and experience in scouting last a life-time.
“As a former King’s scout, I am sure that many of those who have lost touch with the movement will be reminded by your campaign of what they owe to it and encouraged to renew their interest. I wish you every success,” he said-
