FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —A cold front over the North Island is moving eastwards as an anti-cyclone over the Tasman spreads on to the South Island. Forecast: Kaikoura Coast and Canterbury.—Moderate to fresh south-westerlies, with scattered showers at first in areas about and north of Banks Peninsula; otherwise partly cloudy weather predominating, with the winds becoming light or moderate and variable; moderate afternoon temperatures. Marlborough Sounds.—Fresh southerlies, decreasing slowly; scattered showers, but increasing fair periods. Central Marlborough, Nelson, Buller and Westland. —Light or moderate variable winds; a few isolated showers at first, chiefly about the high country, otherwise partly cloudy, with mild afternoon temperatures. Outlook: partly cloudy weather predominating, but skies gradually becoming overcast on the West Coast.
