Skindivers Pass Tests
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Feb. 21. All but two of the 23 skindivers who took part in the New Zealand Underwater Association four-day instructor’s course gained certificates on Saturday as official coaches.
They underwent tests off Waiheke Island where the exercises included ditching and recovery of gear. One diver, who followed a line down 20 feet, found he had to take very real emergency measures when a valve in his aqualung developed a leak
By sharing the breathing tube of another instructor, he reached the surface safely. The course was the result of a move by the association to establish a uniform coaching system throughout the country. The skindivers who took part came from underwater clubs in many’ parts of New Zealand.
