Winter Suits In Board’s Parade

“The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, February 17. Winter suits shown in a fashion parade held by the New Zealand Wool Board in association with its national awards presentation last evening were mainly influenced by the French designer, Chanel.

It was Chanel who first used stitched silk matching the suit for collars and pocket flaps, and some of the most attractive New Zealandmade suits in the parade featured this idea in trims.

One was a pink and purple tweed with a white mohair fleck. With silk revers and pocket flaps in a bright pink. Companion Blouses

Many of the suits had companion silk blouses, another Chanel idea.

Jade green was the colour chosen for a Chanel-inspired suit in a novelty wool jersey that looked like a woven fabric. The blouse was in matching plain wool jersey. Wool jersey and knitted suits often appeared with the unfastened jacket and companion blouse in the Chanel manner. Other woo! jersey suits had embroidered designs on the jackets, some had jacquard designs woven in as a border round the hem. Dark Plum Checks in sophisticated dark plum shadings were used for two trimly tailored wool jersey suits. Another in this fabric had a doublebreasted jacket and slightly

scooped neckline edged with a pleated frill. One of the few suits to dispute the Chanel line was the gold medal winner of this section. This one was made with a very long, elegant jacket curved at the hem and fastened off-centre with a cravat tie to one side. The skirt was slim and tapered. The fabric was a heathery tweed mixing lilac and grey tones.
