Cathedral Square

Sir, —According to your leading article, the prospect of the Square being immune from even more incongruous buildings is pretty dim. Apparently, so long as a building conforms to the city by-laws, the City Council cannot legally object, whatever kind of architectural abortion may be contemplated. The outlook seems even more depressing if “fear of antagonising proper-ty-owners” (presumably those in the big money) is likely to influence the council when it comes to preserving the harmonious development of the Square.—Yours, etc., ILAM. February 4, 1965.
