“Farnborough, 1964”

Sir,—On Saturday last a two-and-a-half-hour 8.8. C. documentary on the 1964 Farnborough air display was

programmed for CHTV-3. A short time before this programme was scheduled to commence viewers were told that the film had not arrived and would be shown at some later date. X had hired a television set especially for the occasion, and invited interested persons to view this programme. The film was advertised in the “New Zealand Listener” to be screened from AKTV-2 on Saturday, January 23, and advertised in last Saturday’s “Press” for screening on CHTV-3 that afternoon. If the film did not arrive in New Zealand, why was it left till Saturday afternoon to notify CHTV-3 viewers of this when it was to have been screened a full week earlier for Auckland viewers?— Yours, etc., E. February 2, 1965. [The district manager of the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation (Mr K. M. Hay) replies: “After the transmission on January 23 this programme was sent in error to another station and unfortunately did not arrive in Christchurch in time for Saturday's advertised telecast. An announcement that it would not be shown was left until the last minute in the hope that the programme would reach us in time. We apologise for the inconvenience caused to ‘E.’ and hope that he will be able to see the programme when it is shown from CHTV3 at 2.31 p.m. on Saturday, February 20.” J
