Big Wasps’ Nest A large wasps’ nest Bft long, 4ft wide, and 31ft deep, was found by a truck driver on a tree 15ft from the highway, three miles and a half on the Kopara side of Nelson Creek. Mr H. Tuck, of Nelson Creek, stopped his vehicle to remove a branch of a tree which had fallen across the road. On looking up to see from where the branch had fallen, Mr Tuck found the huge nest It has since been the centre of much attraction, but none of the large number of people who have inspected the nest has been stung.— (F.0.0.R.) Nassella Found Sixty-four seedlings and small nassella tussock plants were found within a square chain near Sutherlands last month. Giving this information to the monthly meeting of the Levels County Council, a field superintendent of the Department of Agriculture, Christchurch (Mr A. R. Dingwall), said the seedlings and plants were found on the site of previous nassella tussock infestation. Endeavour Due The Royal New Zealand Naval Supply vessel, Endeavour, Is due at Lyttelton at 9 a.m. today. The Endeavour, which has had a party of scientists doing an oceanographic survey of the Campbell plateau, will berth at Gladstone Pier. She will sail for McMurdo Sound with a petroleum cargo on February 12. This will be her last supply voyage to Antarctica this season. Cloudy Weather The weather in Christchurch yesterday was mostly cloudy with light to moderate easterly winds, the Weather Office reported. Temperature during the day rose to a peak of 67 degrees at 1 p.m. At 6 a.m. the temperature was 52 degrees, at 9 a.m. 61 degrees, at noon 66 degrees, and at 3 p.m. 66 degrees. At 4.30 p.m. the temperature shown on the Government Life building was 65 degrees. Condolence Book More than 600 names have been recorded on sheets at the Christchurch office of the British Trade Commission for inclusion in a New Zealand book of condolence to be sent to the Chhrchill family. Today is the last opportunity for city people to have their names included. Apprenticeship The Commission of Inquiry on Apprenticeship and Technical Training would visit Christchurch shortly for the taking of submissions, said the chairman of the education committee of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce (Mr R. K. Baker) at the monthly meeting of the chamber’s council last evening. The Associated Chambers, he said, had the opportunity of making submissions to the commission on April 27. The executive of the Associated Chambers would decide at its meeting on March 12 whether there was sufficient response from chambers to go ahead with the preparation of submissions.
