Ministry Of Works Staff
Sir,—Driving home from Greymouth the other day, I saw two men employed by the Ministry of Works filling in pot-holes on the main road. Both are operators of machines normally. Further down the road I passed a Ministry truck driven by a person employed by the Ministry who has no driving licence. He has been driving for some time. What happens in case of an accident? Who pays the operators’ wages for pot-holing?— Yours, etc. INTERESTED TAXPAYER. January 28, 1965. [The District Commissioner of Works (Mr D. B. Dallas) said: “I am unable to comment on such vague information.”]
