CITY WATER SUPPLY
Record Usage On Monday The 28.311 m gallons of water used in Christchurch on Monday was a record for a day’s consumption in the city. Mr C. W. Batterbury, the city waterworks engineer, yesterday attributed the abnormal demand to watering of gardens when householders came home after short holidays and found their gardens dry.' Consumption in the city last month was 652,524,000 gallons, and this was a record for a month; but unless conditions change the January consumption may be higher. The City Council’s 23 pumping stations have heen fully taxed, but have been able to cope with the high demand which has been general throughout the summer.
