Cyclist Set N.Z. Record
(N.Z. Press Association)
INVERCARGILL, Dec. 29. The New Zealand test cyclist, V. Newlove (Auckland), tonight broke his fourth New Zealand record, and his third at Invercargill Kew Bowl. He bettered the New Zealand standard time for a standing quarter-mile by one second. His time was 29sec. Newlove now holds national records for the junior 1000 metres time trial, the junior 220 yards sprint, the open half-mile standing start and the open quarter-mile standing start.
The atmosphere for tonight’s attempt was heavy and foggy and in the circumstances it was a fine performance.
