EASTWIND CALLS
The United States icebreaker, Eastwind, arrived at Lyttelton from Wellington yesterday to bunker on her way back to Antarctica.
Captain B. R. Henry said yesterday the Eastwind would evacuate staff from Cape Hallet Station before the end of the season. It was also possible the ship would visit Little America before
she returned to Lyttelton on March 7. The Eastwind will sail for McMurdo Sound this morning. Three other vessels for the Antarctic are also in Lyttelton. The Private Joseph F. Merrell will bunker and will also sail today, the Chattahoochee will leave tomorrow, after bunkering and loading a cargo of jet fuel, and the Glacier will go on Saturday. The Endeavour is due at Lyttelton from McMurdo Sound tomorrow morning. She will leave on January 6 for an oceanographic cruise in southern waters before she makes a final trip this season from Lyttelton to McMurdo Sound with petrol.
