JAPANESE EQUIPMENT
Demonstration At Timaru
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, Dec. 29.
More than 100 observers are expected to attend a demonstration by 12 Japanese experts of advanced electronic and fishing gear at the port of Timaru in FebruaryMr R. S. Morris, a member of the sub-committee of the Fishing Industry Board, which is arranging the demonstration, said today that the Japanese would arrive on February 1, by which time they would have completed similar demonstrations at Tauranga.
Two Royal New Zealand Navy fisheries protection boats, the Mako and Maroro, will act as observer vessels, and fishermen from all parts of the South Island will assemble at Timaru for the demonstration. Three Timaru fishing boats, the Moray Rose, Norseman, and Argo, are being equipped to demonstrate the Japanese gear under New Zealand conditions. The demonstrations will last a week. The official opening will be performed by the Minister of Marine (Mr Scott) at the Caroline Bay Hall on February 15.
