British Election
Sir, —At the time of the British General Election one of your correspondents wrote expressing some interest in the fortunes of a new political movement, the Socialist Party of Great Britain, which was putting up two candidates. Knowing something about the fate of splinter groups I forecast that these candidates would almost certainly forfeit their deposits, and this prediction proved correct, as both were at the bottom of their respective polls. For the benefit of your correspondent, here are the figures. Bromley: electorate. 49.915: Hunt, H. L. (Conservative), 20,417' Grant, E. (5.P.G.8.). 234. Woodside: electorate, 40,035: Carmichael (Labour) 15,521: Valiar, R. (S.P.G.B.)', 88. In both these electorates there were five candidates.—Yours, etc., CARACTACUS. December 29, 1964.
