'Fifth Column'
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) KUALA LUMPUR, December 28,
Malaysia claimed today that a Chinese “fifth column” in Borneo was aiding Indonesian efforts to “establish a Communist dictatorship.”
A Government announcement said captured Communist documents placed all members of a so-called “National Liberation League” under the direct orders of a Communist underground group.
The documents, written in Chinese, instructed the organisation to recruit its membership from Malaysians of Chinese origin. It was told to accept nonChinese members only with strict caution. To Be Outlawed
The Government said it would outlaw the organisation on the grounds that it was “simply and solely a tool of the Communists in their campaign, in alliance with the Indonesians, to enslave the people and to establish (in Borneo) ... a Communist dictatorship under the directorship of Mao Tse-tung and the Government of Red China.
According to the announcement, the documents were captured on November 1 and November 5 in two villages in Borneo. An estimated 10,000 Chinese residents of Malaysian Borneo crossed the border into Indonesian territory in 1962 and 1963, allegedly for training in guerrilla tactics. Reprisals Threat
Malaysia offered rewards in August, 1963, for information about the illegal emigrants, and threatened reprisals against their families for “withholding information,” U.P.I. said. So far as is known, this threat has not been carried out.
It was reported here that a box containing 48 blocks of
Belgian-made dynamite was confiscated from 13 Indonesian guerrillas captured near Singapore today. The guerrillas were part of a sea-borne raiding party believed to have numbered 28 men that landed 30 miles west of Singapore on Wednesday. Twenty-seven have been captured or killed. Questioning of the 24 captives indicated that their primary mission was sabotage. They said they had been sent from a military base on Assan Island, in the Malacca Straits, to try to link up with a previously-landed raiding party north of Singapore. The previous party is believed to have been wiped out.
