Felt Pens

Sir, —Yesterday I tried to buy a fine-point felt pen—the kind with a compressed nylon nib. I was told that as felt pens are now being made in New Zealand no more may be imported, but this particular kind is not being made. Would the appropriate authority assure the public that such pens will be either manufactured or imported?— Yours, etc., PETER MEREDITH. December 12, 1964. [The Minister of Industries and Commerce comments: “Felt pens are subject to an allocation of *C’ in the 1964-65 import licensing schedule which, broadly speaking, means that applications from regular importers for licences will be considered on their merits. It does not mean that no imports are allowed. In fact, I am advised that no applications for fine-point felt pens have been received by the Customs Department to date in this period. I understand that Stephens Inks (N.Z.), Ltd., one of the New Zealand manufacturers, will commence production of a fine-point marking pen with a fibre-glass wick in January or February next year and that a pen with a nylon wick is scheduled for production about the middle of next year.”]
